The eastern hemlock tree is a coniferous tree that grows tall and tolerates the shade, growing where other evergreen trees cannot survive. It is the state tree of Pennsylvania. It makes a great shade tree, bonsai, or screen. Its pyramidal shape and ability to withstand pruning make it a popular ornamental tree.
